Wonderful news! Entrada has just released the complete soundtrack composed by Elmer Bernstein for Cecil B. DeMille’s greatest epic and all-time box-office champion, The Ten Commandments! Many companies contributed to this release: Paramount, Universal Music Group, MGM, Intrada. The expert audio restoration was done by Chris Malone.

This set comprises six CDs, three of which present the entire original two-and-a-half-hour soundtrack, and for the first time ever. Much of it is in stereo, also for the first time ever. Every cue appears, including myriad fanfares, processions, court dances, authentic shofars (eight of them!), percussion tracks, harp sequences, Theremin and Novachord overlays, and even the tiple, a rare member of the guitar family.

Bernstein’s justifiably famous masterpiece is complete, including sequences edited from the finished film! And, after the score, enjoy 40 minutes of never-before-heard alternates, unused music, and even trailer cues.

Historic bonus: Bernstein himself introduces his major themes in an ultra-rare, recently unearthed 12-minute piano demo prepared for Mr. DeMille at the start of the scoring process.

CD 4 presents the original one-hour soundtrack as released by Dot Records in mono in 1957.

CD 5 gives you the 1960 album issued by Dot to meet the demand for a stereo performance; this version was recorded in stereo by Bernstein in 1960 to closely approximate the 1957 album.

CD 6 offers the CD premiere of the 1966 United Artists stereo album recorded by Bernstein using new arrangements made by his long-time orchestrators Leo Shaken and Jack Hayes. These last three discs are presented from pristine master tapes stored in studio vaults.

A lavishly illustrated 60-page booklet designed by Joe Sikoryak includes full-color reproductions of album cover designs, authoritative notes by Frank K. DeWald about the production and scoring sessions, including dates of releases, musician rosters, cue assemblies, pre-production artwork and more.

Elmer Bernstein conducts all six CDs. And the set is available now! Yes, rejoice!
